Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation
The Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation is an independent foundation established in 1944 by Michael and Sarah Benedum, natives respectively of Bridgeport and Blacksville, West Virginia. They named the Foundation in memory of their only child, Claude Worthington Benedum, who died in 1918 at age 20. The Benedums expressed the wish that grantmaking be focused in West Virginia and Southwestern Pennsylvania, their native and adopted homes. Grants are made in the areas of Education, Economic Development, Civic Engagement, Health and Human Services, and Community Development to advance specific initiatives in West Virginia and Southwestern Pennsylvania.
ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability (Ally)
ICLEI (International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives) – Local Governments ofr Sustainability is a membership-based non-profit organization that works with local governments to achieve deep reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and tangible improvements in local sustainability. WVSC member communities are offered free one-year membership to this association.
Northern West Virginia Brownfields Assistance Center
The Northern West Virginia Brownfields Assistance Center, Housed at West Virginia University's Water Research Institute, serves the State's northern 33 counties, while the Brownfields Assistance Center at Marshall University, house within the Center for Environmental, Geotechnical, and Applied Sciences, serves the Southern 22 counties.
WVU Sustainable Design Initiative
This project provides technical assistance and research assistance as WVSC members focus on a handful of priority issues within their communtiies. The initiative will make skills from across multiple departments of the WVU available to the communities. WVU Division of Design and Merchandising at the West Virginia University seeks to enhance quality of life through design and merchandising. This division is the principal actor in thie WVU Sustainable Design Initiative.
