Welcome to the WV Food & Farm Coalition's policy tracking page! In response to your requests, we now post a regularly updated list of pending state policies that are relevant to local food and farming. We welcome feedback on how to improve this page -- please click here to send feedback.
On this site you can track two types of state policies: legislation and administrative rules. (What's an administrative rule?)
When to look for updates:
- Updates on legislation: The WV Legislature usually holds its sessions January-March each year to vote on bills and resolutions. View our legislative tracking page here.
- Updates on rules: When WV state agencies and administrative bodies propose administrative rules, they are published in the State Register, so that the public can make comments on the proposed rules for a limited time. Most of these notices appear in the State Register in May or June. After reviewing the public's comments, the agency that proposed the rule may then submit it to the the WV Legislature which may take a final vote on that rule, giving citizens another chance to weigh in. It can be difficult to identify these rules in the Legislature's bills, since they are often grouped together and listed only by number -- so it's useful to identify key rules ahead of time. View our agency rules tracking page here. Read WVFFC's guide to citizen participation in the rule making process here.
