West Virginia Saves Week Promotes Saving, Building Wealth

In 2012, Governor Tomblin proclaimed February 19 – 26 to be West Virginia Saves Week. To help West Virginia residents find ways to save and build wealth, West Virginia Saves will once again celebrate and hold fun activities during the week.

The first activity is “Roll Your Change,” during which the public is invited to participate by collecting and depositing their loose change in a new or existing savings account at a participating financial institution. Roll Your Change participants will have an opportunity to win a $500.00 savings bond and other incentives.

The second part of the week is a branch competition. All of the branches of participating financial institutions will compete against one another to enroll the most new WV Savers. The winning branch will win a catered lunch for all the employees. Please note: New Savers can be customers, employees, family members of employees (including children as this is open to all ages), neighbors, friends, etc. Basically, everyone and anyone can be enrolled and count as long as they are not currently a WV Saver. Current account holders can enroll as Savers. They do not have to open a new account.

Although it is West Virginia Saves Week, WV residency is not a requirement to participate in Roll Your Change Week or to enroll as a WV Saver.

Additional information about Saves Week can be found at www.americasavesweek.org. The site contains suggestions of things that employers, financial institutions, military, non-profits, government agencies, educators, and youth organizations can also do to help celebrate the week.
