In 2011, dozens of West Virginia nonprofits lost their tax exempt status because they failed to file the appropriate IRS forms. Isolated incidents of fraud and lack of due diligence cast a negative public eye on all non profits. Nonprofits that lack structure and policy can quickly become stagnant and ineffective at meeting their mission and fundraising goals.
